Easter Day 2025
Good morning and Happy Easter!
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve updated this Substack, so I figured Easter was the day to do it.
This morning, Jack did his egg hunt in the back garden. We watched Easter service on the Church of England’s YouTube channel (Jack dug the music) and had a big fry up breakfast since it’s Sunday.
I would go out and about with him today but I’ve had a cold this week (typical when I’m off work) so motivating me to be anywhere other than the recliner is tough.
Adventure Awaits
On Good Friday we travelled to Durham City Centre. I was on a mission to see a recovered first folio of Shakespeare’s. It’s a shame I didn’t feel well because I couldn’t take in the magnitude of how cool this all was. I’ve been to the British Library years ago and been overcome by literary treasures. This being on our doorstep was that more meaningful.

Jack’s Mum
It’s no secret that being home with a five year old over half term is difficult. I don’t know how people work from home or write or do anything other than parent when they have a young child around. This is why we keep trying to keep him busy. The days are okay but by tea time we need to take a walk at the very least to keep him from being too bored and off the rails.
Self care and other refinements
Part of my trying to navigate the murky waters of grief, I’ve started doing Pilates. I don’t love it but when I’ve completed my hour, I feel very accomplished. I am neither in good shape or very coordinated to be good at Pilates so all I do is laugh at myself and keep going.
I also bought a Kindle so I can take up reading again. I’m still not sure about the “romantasy” books because I’m not interested in either of the prevalent topics that seem to be in these novels. I’ll keep trying to find something to get stuck in though.
Keep swimming
Aside from the literal swimming I do for enjoyment and exercise, I am starting at the small library branch after Easter break. I’m excited to have a permanent change of scenery a couple of days a week. The staff are lovely and the commute is easier from home, so I think it’s a perfect fit.
I hope this update finds everyone well and you’re enjoying your Easter weekend.
